Still in our heart but not in our home

Every animal that enters our lives at Essies Animals leaves an enduring mark. They are never just pets or breeding animals to us—they are cherished companions nurtured with genuine care and dedication. This memorial page celebrates the precious lives that brought us quiet joy, unique wonder, and unconditional love. Though they have crossed over, their memories will always remain in our hearts.

In loving memory of Kaya

Species: Chahoua gecko (Mniarogekko chahoua)
Forever cherished: 2024 – 2026

Kaya (Mniarogekko chahoua) was our very first Chahoua gecko and the one who truly started it all for us. At first, we thought she was a little boy, but as she grew, she became such a beautiful girl with her own sweet, gentle, and endearing personality. Sadly, Kaya passed away unexpectedly, and we still don’t know why or what may have happened. She’ll always hold a very special place in our hearts as the beginning of our love for Chahoua geckos, for the happiness and comfort she brought into our lives, and for all the precious memories we were so lucky to share with her during her time with us.

Forever remembered, Lilly

Species: Crested gecko (Correlophus Cilliatus)
Forever cherished: 2021 – 2026

Lilly, our very first Lilly White crested gecko, will always have an especially special place in our hearts. We brought her home when she was just 3 grams and had the joy of watching her grow into a beautiful 48-gram girl with stunning crystal-white coloring and a truly unforgettable look. She was the sweetest little gecko, loved her food, and had such a gentle, calming presence that made every day brighter. Lilly brought us so much happiness, comfort, laughter, and joy every day she was with us. Sadly, she passed away due to epilepsy, but she will always be deeply loved, fondly remembered, and never forgotten by everyone who knew her.

Onyx, Athena & Mystic

Species: Leaf-tailed gecko (Uroplatus ebenaui)
Forever cherished: 2025 – 2026

At the end of 2025, we welcomed our newest leaf-tailed geckos, Onyx and Mystic. They laid multiple eggs and gave us several healthy little ones. A few months later, Athena joined our collection, and the three quickly became a happy little group.

Sadly, things changed after we moved to a new home. Leaf-tailed geckos are incredibly sensitive to stress, and they stopped eating. We took Mystic to the vet several times and did everything we could, but within two weeks, we lost all three geckos, as well as their offspring.

We were completely heartbroken. We still feel so guilty, even though we know much of it was out of our control. We tried our absolute best, and this loss will always stay with us.

Our lovely Zéra

Species: Crested gecko (Correlophus Cilliatus)
Forever cherished: 2023 – 2026

We first saw Zéra at a pet store, and while we don’t usually get pets from pet stores, we just knew she was meant to come home with us. She was such a healthy, beautiful gecko, and her sweet little personality made us smile right away. Zéra loved food so much that we eventually had to put her on a diet, which was never easy because she always acted like she hadn’t eaten nearly enough and was still hoping for one more treat.

After we moved in the summer of 2026, her health declined really quickly, and it was heartbreaking to see her become so weak after being such a lively little girl. She passed away after a difficult shed and choked on it. Even after we removed it from her mouth, she was too weak to keep fighting and recover. We had to let her go, even though we really, really didn’t want to. We’ll always miss her so much and remember the happiness she brought into our home.
