Meet the marvelous mammals of Essies Animals
We mostly have reptiles and fish, but we’ve also got a few adorable mammals sharing our home.
Our Pets
Back in our old reptile room, we had four cats wandering around and keeping us company every day. Two of them were mine, but sadly they couldn’t move to our new home with me, so they stayed with my parents. Our two ferrets did come along, though! There’s Miep, the tiny white one, and Jet, the slightly bigger, classic-coloured one. They both have huge personalities and always make us laugh.
Ferrets and cats happily calling Essies Animals home.
Just before we moved into our new room, we found a little stray kitten who needed some help. We named him Croquette, and he’s now a much-loved part of our home and everyday life.
Every now and then, we foster kittens. It helps Croquette learn more about cat behaviour, while also giving little kittens like him a chance to get used to people and home life. You can read Croquette’s story below. If you visit us, there’s a good chance you’ll spot some kittens running around, playing, sleeping, or exploring their temporary home.
Fostering Kittens
Fostering is a really important part of life at Essies Animals. By welcoming kittens into our home for a little while, we can give them a safe and loving space to grow, play, and get comfortable around people. It also gives Croquette the chance to learn social cat behaviour from his new furry friends. Every foster kitten is different, and it’s amazing to watch them build confidence, learn to trust people, and feel at home before heading off to their forever homes.
Meet Croquette
Croquette joined us as a tiny stray kitten just before we moved into our new room. With lots of patience, care, and cuddles, he quickly became a loved member of the Essies Animals family. He’s curious, playful, and loves having foster kittens around to keep him company and join in on his adventures. Croquette’s story is a sweet reminder of how much a safe home and a little love can mean to an animal in need.
We rescued Croquette in France from a very bad home, where he was underfed and covered in fleas. We took him along on our road trip, and now he's home with us. His name was inspired by the word for kibble in France: croquette. Funny enough, we tried feeding him croquettes the morning after we found him, and he hated them 😂
He was wandering around the campsite where we were staying, and we were told it was okay to take him with us. So we did! In just one week, he’s grown so much and has been eating like there’s no tomorrow. He went from being a tiny, boney kitten with a belly full of nothing to a little guy with a full tummy all the time. He was slow, covered in so many fleas you could barely see his skin, and now he’s an active little boy who has no fleas left. We’re already loving every moment with him and can’t wait to see him grow, both healthier and even more full of character. For such a small cat, he has a very big personality. We’re so excited to share Croquette’s journey with you all!
Helping Animals Feel Safe
Whether they’re permanent pets or foster kittens staying with us for a little while, every animal at Essies Animals gets the space, patience, and care they need to feel safe. We make sure they have cosy spots to rest, plenty of time to play and explore, and lots of positive contact with people. Watching shy animals grow into confident, curious, affectionate little characters is one of the best parts of sharing our home with them.
Meet Miep & Jet
We are excited to introduce you to our two female ferrets: Miep and Jet. Miep is the adorable white ferret, while Jet is the playful brown one. Both of them are microferrets, which means they are a smaller breed of ferret. At around a year old, they are full of energy and curiosity, making them wonderful companions. Whether they are exploring their surroundings or snuggling up for a nap, Miep and Jet bring joy and laughter into our lives every day.
Croquette’s Story
Our little guy Croquette was born around June 14, 2026. He’s a gorgeous long-haired mix with a soft coat, bright curious eyes, and a whole lot of personality. We found him in France, and he’s been affectionate, amazing, and full of charm from day one. In July 2026, we rescued Croquette from a really rough home where he was underfed, neglected, and covered in fleas. We brought him in and gave him the gentle care, good food, comfort, and safety he needed to heal. Little by little, he learned to trust, relax, and feel at home. Even after such a tough start, Croquette has grown into the sweetest, most resilient, and loving companion. He’s also fantastic with our foster kittens—they spend all day running, playing, and cuddling, and Croquette is always gentle, patient, and happy to share his space.
Meet Our Four Cats
Here are the four cats you may have spotted running around, exploring every corner, chasing little toys, and playing together in our old room all day long. Leaving my own two cats, Sunny & Muis, but also the family cats Bruno & Fleur, behind has been really hard and emotional. Little Croquette definitely helps brighten things up a bit, though, and always brings a smile! Luckily, we still visit very often, so I get plenty of cuddles, enjoy their familiar company, and can give my cats all the love they truly deserve.
Meet Sunny: Our Beloved Siamese Mix
This is my boy cat, Sunny. He’s a Siamese mix from Spain, and he came to us from the shelter. Sunny was born on August 1, 2022, and he has brought so much joy into our lives. His playful personality and affectionate nature make him a cherished member of our family. We are grateful to have found him and to give him a loving home.
Meet Fleur: Our Beloved British Shorthair
This is Fleur, our British Shorthair girl. She is our very first cat, and she holds a special place in our hearts. Born on August 30, 2014, Fleur has been a delightful companion since the day she came into our lives. With her charming personality and soft, plush coat, she brings joy and warmth to our home every day. We cherish the moments we share with her and look forward to creating many more memories together.
Meet Bruno: Our Bengal Cat
This is Bruno, our other male cat. Bruno is a Bengal, and he was born on June 27, 2023. Despite his striking appearance and playful nature, Bruno is a bit of a scaredy-cat. He tends to shy away from loud noises and unfamiliar situations, preferring the comfort of his cozy spots at home. With time and patience, we hope to help him build confidence and feel more secure in his surroundings. Bruno is a cherished member of our family, and we look forward to watching him grow and thrive.
Meet Mouse (Muis): Our Newest Family Member
This is Mouse, our newest and youngest cat. Born on July 26, 2024, Mouse has quickly become a cherished part of our family. With a playful spirit and curious nature, he brings joy and energy to our home. We look forward to many adventures together as he grows and explores his new surroundings.
